Honor A Chief Gallery
The Honor a Chief program gives you the opportunity to tell the story of how and why the Chief you identified deserves to be honored and recognized.
When you honor a Chief, you are supporting the National Chief’s Mess by recognizing a Chief that has provided inspiration, mentorship, and guidance to you.
Utilizing the interactive display inside the Delbert D. Black National Chief’s Mess, we will display your message of thanks and a photo, if provided, of the Chief you wish to honor. This exhibit educates the public about incredible Chiefs who have inspired officers, enlisted, family and friends.

ETC Boltz was my first Chief on board USS CADMUS AR-14 out of Norfolk VA in 1947. I checked in as a ATSN. One thing I noticed about Chief Boltz, he treated everyone fair but at the same time he was firm. He wanted all of the Sailors under his leadership to advance and to do better. If he saw that we ...
Chief Storekeeper Alfred William Rogahn is my father but unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to know him. My mother passed away before I had a chance to learn more about him. I met Yolanda as my new (and final) Flag Writer when I was stationed at Allied Command Transformation, NATO ACT. She was a very serious professional, devoted to her family and to her work. Then a YNC, Adrien swung into action and set a standard for all. He ran my very busy schedule, helped to w ...
I met Master Chief Pelagio when I was a young Petty Officer Second Class. He was in charge of the galley on base. It was a small base, and he was in charge of about 10+ Sailors from the age of 20-26. A very tough age group to keep out of trouble in HI. He managed all of us well. He kept us busy with ...

Chief Torrez was my first Chief - he committed himself to the Sailors in his charge and to teaching me how to be a good officer. I will never forget him. Evelyn Banks was a Chief when I first met her onboard USS ACADIA. I was impressed by her commitment to all of her Sailors in Food Service Division. At the time we had no mentors to look up to and no one to train us in our job. She reported to Acadia and immediately made changes to our training progr ...
