Honoring: Master Chief Warren Russel Fox, USN
Honored by: Christine Fox
Master Chief Warren Fox was my father and my inspiration. In 1958 when the Navy added two new pay grades above the existing Senior Chief Petty Officer (E-7) rank, Master Chief Fox was one of 3 Senior Chiefs to be promoted directly to E-9. This promotion was in recognition of his service in ADM Rickover's nuclear program. He was a plank owner of USS Long Beach, the world's first nuclear-powered guided missile cruiser. Master Chief Fox made the initial, historic deployment on Long Beach in 1961. USS Long Beach was a one-of-a-kind ship that featured advanced technologies and nuclear power. Its nuclear propulsion allowed it to achieve speeds of 30 knots. Thanks to Master Chief Fox's exemplary efforts, along with so many other sailors, chiefs, and officers, USS Long Beach served a vital role from 1961 to 1995. Over the years, I heard many stories from other sailors and chiefs who served with Master Chief Fox. They always commended him for his exceptional leadership, his dedication and his competence. He was an inspiration for me and remains so to this day. Master Chief Fox died in 1991 but he should never be forgotten.
