Through fog and rain on Friday morning, a 7-foot statue of a sailor faced a crowd filled with veterans of the US Navy and other military branches who sacrificed their personal freedoms in service of the nation.
It was an honor to serve with you my whole career. And I’m really happy to see you here at the helm of the Navy Memorial. She admired the late Alfred Lee Odom, an Aircraft Maintenanceman Master Chief in the U.S. Navy, and his career is a source of pride for the family. He served from 1959 until his retirement in 1981.
