Honoring: MACM Bill Schaibly, USN, Ret.

Honored by VADM Carol Pottenger, USN, Ret.

I first met Bill when I climbed aboard the Jacobs ladder of USS BRIDGE (AOE-10) to take command. I could immediately tell that he was the “real deal”, respected, admired, a strong but fair leader. Together we led the crew through an accelerated shipyard period in preparation for an extended deployment iso OEF, nine months of supporting several CSGs, ESGs, and dozens of coalition ships.

Bill was a critical part of motivating and inspiring the BRI crew for an arduous and dangerous deployment. Thanks in large measure to his deck plate leadership as we geared up, the ship and crew not only made it through one of the most difficult operational periods in the US Navy’s history, BRI was awarded the Battle “E” amongst several other distinctions, and all came home safely to family and friends.

After we both retired, Bill continued to impress me. During his active service he had joined the local police department as a reserve officer, working on his certifications and degrees throughout. Then he went full-time for an entire second career in our cherished First Responder population. Bill continues to be a beloved family man, to give back to his community and to represent the United States Navy as one of the finest Sailors I have ever served alongside. BZ MACM Schaibly!
