BUC Brian Wong was the Operations Chief at Naval Station Rota during my time there as Production Officer. In the heart of the chaos that ensued during Operations Allies Refuge, BUC Brian Wong emerged as a beacon of leadership and unwavering dedication at Naval Station Rota. When the call came to swiftly accommodate evacuees, Chief Wong didn't just rise to the occasion – he orchestrated both coordination and action that defied the constraints of time and uncertainty. Within a mere 48 hours, Chief Wong spearheaded the planning and execution of essential infrastructure for processing, medical care, and housing for an influx of personnel whose numbers were yet unknown. It was under his steadfast guidance that Camp Soviak materialized, a haven capable of sheltering and caring for 2,500 evacuees in a remarkable display of efficiency and compassion.
