U.S. Navy Memorial Announces Summertime Concert Series
The United States Navy Memorial will host Concerts on the Avenue, a series performed by the United States Navy Band, from Memorial Day to Labor Day this summer.
The United States Navy Band began its Concerts on the Avenue series in 1997. The Navy Band is carrying on this tradition by performing on Memorial Plaza Tuesdays at 7:30pm. Performances will feature various ensembles of the Navy Band, including the Sea Chanters chorus, Commodores jazz ensemble, Cruisers popular music group, Country Current country-bluegrass ensemble and the Concert Band. On select weeks, the full Navy Band will perform along with the Navy Ceremonial Guard and Navy Drill Team.
The concert series highlights naval history and heritage, including the current exhibits at the Navy Memorial, honors the U.S. Navy fleet, and pays tribute to the nation’s veterans. It is a family-friendly event featuring a variety of musical genres, including current radio hits, iconic American music and patriotic standards.
If weather conditions, including heat, preclude an outdoor concert from occurring, the concert may be moved inside. If moved inside, a concert featuring the Sea Chanters will be held inside the Navy Memorial’s Burke Theater.
