A New, Realistic Ship-Handling Simulator is Coming to the Navy Memorial Visitor Center!

The Navy Memorial has started planning the installation of a ship-handling simulator in the Visitor Center.

The simulator would not only support the mission of the Navy Memorial but also provide an opportunity to support the mission of the US Navy, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine.

As a live, realistic exhibit, it would:

  • Enable visitors to experience the challenges and intricacies of driving a large ship.

  • Provide an opportunity for training mariners in the business of driving large ships.

Rendering provided by Defense Maritime Solutions (DMS)

The Navy Memorial envisions a dedicated space using a realistic bridge mock-up with realistic-looking and performing equipment, state-of-the-art software, ~300-degree state-of-the-art monitors, and high-fidelity sound that would provide the experience of driving a ship in the open ocean or the restricted maneuvering of a heavily trafficked port.

The user would experience the challenge and excitement of ship handling, drawn from real-life situations and virtually recreated to make it more engaging.

You can help us achieve our goal of constructing and opening this exhibit!
