The rank of Chief Petty Officer as we know it today was officially established on April 1, 1893. The Navy Memorial hosts a birthday celebration for Navy Chiefs annually to Honor, Recognize, and Celebrate the fundamental role they play in the United States Navy.
Each year during the Chief Petty Officer Initiation Season, Chief Petty Officer Messes from all over the east coast come to Washington D.C. to experience the historical significance of our Nation’s Captial.
Each year the United States Navy selects the best and brightest First Class Petty Officers for advancement to Chief Petty Officer - a most significant career milestone for our U.S. Navy’s enlisted ranks. The newest Chief Petty Officers in the National Capital Region are pinned with anchors and advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer during a ceremony at the Navy Memorial.
The Navy Memorial honors the U.S. Navy’s newest Sailors of the Year with a special digital production. These incredible Sailors from commands around the world are nominated for their performance and meritoriously promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
