United States Navy Memorial Celebrates Major Support From General Dynamics Electric Boat For Maritime Industrial Base Exhibit
Washington, D.C.- The United States Navy Memorial is proud to highlight the "Inform" pillar of its mission with their newest Maritime Industrial Base (MIB) and Submarine Industrial Base (SIB) exhibit made possible through the generous sponsorship of General Dynamics Electric Boat (Electric Boat).
Since unveiling the exhibit in April, the Navy Memorial Visitor Center has welcomed more than 11,000 people, providing engaging and educational experiences that showcase the history of Navy ships and submarines and honoring the men and women who help build them. The new exhibit explores the history, technology, and people that design, build, and maintain the Navy’s fleet with interactive displays and multimedia content.
“With the Navy celebrating its 250th anniversary and the Submarine Force marking 125 years, General Dynamics Electric Boat’s generous support has made it possible for us to present the Maritime Industrial Base as the centerpiece of our programs and events,” said VADM (Ret.) John Nowell Jr., President and CEO of the United States Navy Memorial.
As a Parche-level sponsor, named after the most decorated submarine class in the Navy and the Navy Memorial’s highest and most impactful tier, Electric Boat’s commitment extends beyond funding. The company has provided exclusive content for the exhibits, including a 3D-printed model of the USS District of Columbia (SSBN-826) submarine, the first boat of the United States Navy’s new Columbia-class ballistic missile submarines class and the Navy’s first vessel to be named for the District of Columbia, as well as content that provides a closer look at the intricate process of submarine construction.
