The Lone Sailor Statue - Corpus Christi

The Navy Memorial is working closely with local veterans organizations to place a Lone Sailor statue on the Corpus Christi Bayfront. And you can help!

Historical Significance

Steeped in Naval history, Corpus Christi has been a lynchpin to Naval Aviation since World War II and continues to play a vital role in the tactical aviation skills training of Navy and Marine Corps pilots. It is also called home by thousands of retired and former Sailors and Marines who never forgot the city’s tremendous hospitality to our veterans.

A Site to Remember

Naval Air Station Corpus Christi (NASCC) is located six miles from the central business district. Shortly after its commissioning in April 1941, nearly 800 instructors on NAS Corpus Christi were producing nearly 300 pilots per month. With the bombing of Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941, that number doubled. NASCC, the original home of the elite U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels, continues to serve as home to the Chief of Naval Aviation Training, who oversees the training of approximately 400 newly qualified aviators each year via the "Maritime Pipeline" for shore-based U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard fixed-wing jet and turboprop aircraft.

This proud Texan Lone Sailor will serve as a tribute to the naval aviators who earned their wings here and all the Sailors and Marines who helped make that happen.

How Can I Help?

Fundraising efforts to place and dedicate this statue on the U.S. Navy’s birthday – October 13th, 2023 – are underway and being managed by the Navy Memorial. The memorial has a fundraising goal of $300,000 to cover the cost of casting and transporting along with corresponding ceremonies.

Your support will not only help make the iconic Lone Sailor statue more visible and accessible to the public, but also provide greater representation of the US Navy community in Corpus Christi and the great state of Texas.
