Vice Admiral Pottenger, a 1977 graduate of Purdue University, is the President of CMP Global, LLC. She is amongst the first group of women to be commissioned through Navy ROTC. She was selected in 1978 for the Women at Sea program and over the course of her career as a Surface Warfare Officer, served aboard USS Yosemite (AD-19); USS Yellowstone (AD-41); USS Kiska (AE-35); and as the Commanding Officer of USS Shasta (AE-33) and USS Bridge (AOE-10). Vice Admiral Pottenger was the first woman in the Navy to command a Strike Group, Expeditionary Strike Group Seven, headquartered in Okinawa Japan with eight ships homeported in Sasebo Japan. She also commanded Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, and spent her final years serving as the senior US military officer in NATO’s Military Command Structure. Ashore tours included several assignments in the Pentagon as the Executive Assistant to OPNAV N86, N8 and VCNO.
Following her Navy career, Vice Admiral Pottenger established a consulting practice and advised companies in the oil and gas industry; in the defense industry; and in academia. She currently sits on two advisory boards, Strategic Resources, INC and Intuidex, INC; as a member of DACOWITS; and on two non-profit boards, US Navy Memorial and Surface Navy Association. Purdue University presented Vice Admiral Pottenger with an honorary PhD in 2007.
