The Navy Memorial was open to the public on Friday, July 4, 2008 with a variety of activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

11:00 a.m. Screening of Hero Ship: USS Constitution

1:00 p.m. Screening of Hero Ship: USS Nautilus

2:00 p.m. "Let Freedom Ring" is a nationwide Independence Day program in which bells across the country—and on every ship in the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard—are rung 13 times at exactly 2:00 p.m. EDT in honor of the thirteen original states that the signers of the Declaration of Independence represented.

3:00 p.m. Screening of Hero Ship: USS Hornet

All events were free and open to the public.

 


 

 

July 4th celebrations included the "Let Freedom Ring" campaign in 2007.

Thirteen students each rang the bell on the Plaza, honoring the signers of the Declaration of Independence.


Visitors had the opportunity to meet USS Mason veteran Lorenzo DuFau, and watch a video about the Mason inside the Naval Heritage Center.
