Navy Memorial & U.S. Navy Band Announce Summer 2012 "Concerts on the Avenue"

WHAT:    “Concerts on the Avenue” – U.S. Navy Band Summer Concert Series

Free, live concert performed by the U.S. Navy Band every Tuesday evening June 5 through August 28.  Musical performances include patriotic, country, and rock music + Broadway show tunes.  Select performances also include the Coast Guard Band, a Navy drill team demonstration and a 50-state flag presentation.

SCHEDULE:

June 5: The Commodores, part of the U.S. Navy Band featuring 18 of the Navy's top jazz and big band musicians, perform jazz, popular and patriotic music.

June 12: The United States Navy Band is the premier musical organization of the U.S. Navy and includes 172 enlisted musicians and four officers.

June 19: The United States Navy Concert Band has performed for over 85 years and presents a wide array of marches, patriotic selections, orchestral transcriptions and modern wind ensemble repertoire.

June 26: The United States Navy Band is the premier musical organization of the U.S. Navy and includes 172 enlisted musicians and four officers.

July 10: The Country Current, a specialty unit of the U.S. Navy Band, features country and bluegrass music.

July 17: The Commodores, part of the U.S. Navy Band featuring 18 of the Navy's top jazz and big band musicians, perform jazz, popular, and patriotic music.

July 24: The United States Navy Band is the premier musical organization of the U.S. Navy and includes 172 enlisted musicians and four officers.

July 31: The United States Navy Band is the premier musical organization of the U.S. Navy and includes 172 enlisted musicians and four officers.

August 6 (Monday): The United States Navy Concert Band has performed for over 85 years and presents a wide array of marches, patriotic selections, orchestral transcriptions and modern wind ensemble repertoire.  They will be joined by the United States Navy’s official chorus, the Sea Chanters, an ensemble that performs traditional choral music, including sea chanteys and patriotic fare, opera, Broadway and contemporary tunes.

August 7: The United States Coast Guard Dixieland Jazz Band, a five member group, was organized in 1970 to perform classic jazz, blues and rags with a New Orleans flavor and has since entertained audiences around the globe.  This year the U.S. Coast Guard celebrates its 222nd Birthday.

August 14: The United States Navy Band is the premier musical organization of the U.S. Navy and includes 172 enlisted musicians and four officers.

August 21: The United States Navy Concert Band has performed for over 85 years and presents a wide array of marches, patriotic selections, orchestral transcriptions and modern wind ensemble repertoire.

August 28: The United States Navy Band is the premier musical organization of the U.S. Navy and includes 172 enlisted musicians and four officers.
