Petty Officer Stewart was born February 17, 1966 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He attended Monterey High School and graduated in 1984. He enlisted in the Navy in February of 1989.
After completion of Recruit Training in Great Lakes, Illinois he attended Naval Aircrewmen Candidate School and Rescue Swimmer School in Pensacola, Florida. He then reported to Aviation Antisubmarine Warfare Operator “A” School in Millington, Tennessee.
In October 1989 he reported to HSL-40 for SH-60B Fleet Replacement LAMPS MK III Aircrew Training in Mayport, Florida. Next, Petty Officer Stewart reported to HSL-44 in June of 1990.
With HSL-44 Petty Officer Stewart was attached to Detachment Two and assigned to the USS Deyo (DD-989) from September 1990 to April 1991 in support of Operation Desert Storm. His second deployment was onboard USS Halyburton (FFG 40) from October 1992 to April 1993. He also earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist Qualification as a SH-60B Plane Captain.
In March 1994, Petty Officer Stewart reported to HSL-48. His duties included SAR Petty Officer, Auxiliary Retail Officer Manager, and Detachment Liaison Officer. Still with HSL-48 Petty Officer Stewart made his third deployment with USS Thomas Gates (CG-48) from April 1997 to October 1997. In April of 1998 Petty Officer Stewart made his fourth deployment onboard USS Yorktown (CG-51).
In July 1999, Petty Officer Stewart was honorably discharged from the Navy, but reenlisted 10 months later. He reported to HSL-47 and made his fifth deployment onboard USS Jarrett (FFG-33) in November 2001 to February 2002 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He also earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Qualification and qualified as a Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor.
Next Petty Officer Stewart reported to HSM-41 in May of 2004. His duties included Student Control Leading Petty Officer, Staff Leading Petty Officer, Enlisted CNAP Evaluator, First Class Petty Officer Association President and qualified as a Master Training Specialist. He was selected as Senior Sailor of the Month for September 2005 and 2006, Senior Sailor of the Quarter, fourth Quarter 2005 and COMHSMWINGPAC Sailor of the Quarter, fourth Quarter 2005.
AW1(AW/SW/NAC) Stewart’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards) and the Good Conduct Medal (5 awards) along with various service and campaign medals.
