On any given day, in your Navy, our team of more than 600,000 professional Sailors and Civilians are working together around the globe to perform our mission: deter aggression and, if deterrence fails, win our Nation’s wars. It is not possible to share every aspect of this global team but, through this blog, we offer you a glimpse of what these men and women do.

The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22) arrives in San Diego for its commissioning ceremony on May 19. San Diego is the fourth ship named for the city and the first to be homeported in San Diego.

An FA-18C Hornet assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 25 flies supersonic over the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) during an air power demonstration. Carl Vinson and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17 are underway on a deployment in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations.

The guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109) fires its MK-45 5-inch/54-caliber lightweight gun during a live-fire exercise. Jason Dunham is a part of Carrier Strike Group 8, which is underway conducting a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) in the Atlantic Ocean.

- Chief Musician Christopher Vlangas, Musician 2nd Class Willie Brandon, and Musician 3rd Class Andrew Francisco, assigned to the U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band, Topside, perform at the Centre Pilote pour la Petite Enfance (CPPE). Topside is embarked aboard High Speed Vessel Swift (HSV 2) in support of Africa Partnership Station 2012 (APS). APS is an international security cooperation initiative aimed at strengthening global maritime partnerships through training and collaborative activities to improve maritime safety and security in Africa.
