“NAVY DAY IN D.C.” CELEBRATES U.S. NAVY’S BIRTHDAY
Performances, Displays, Tours, and Kids’ Activities Round Out Day of Festivities

Throughout the Day:
- Kids’ activities include Moon Bounce, Face-painting, Coloring contests, Clown, Hat-making crafts with the educational staff in the Navy Museum and $2.99 kids’ specials at food vendors
- Tours of Display ship USS Barry, U.S. Navy Museum, Navy Art Museum, Cold War Museum
- Coast Guard Patrol/Rescue Boat and Patrol Riverine Command Boat maneuvers every hour
- Docent-led tours of the historic Navy Yard all day
- Thermal Sensor Platform (TSP) and LSSV (military crew cab truck)
- Coast Guard Helicopter Fly-Over
- Naval Audio-Visual Center Exhibit with Model Submarines
- Communications Sensor and Crew Cab

- 11:00 AM Opening Ceremonies featuring the National Anthem, a Twenty-One-Gun Salute, Birthday Cake, and the NJROTC 10th Annual Drill Meet Awards Presentation
- 11:30 AM Navy Ceremonial Guard Drill Team performance
- 12:00 PM Military Working Dog demonstrations
- 12.30 PM “Get the Gouge” (find out the inside info) on the Navy Displays
- 1:00 PM Naval Support Activity Washington Independent Augmentee Q&A period
- 2:00 PM Unveiling and Ribbon-Cutting of the Navy Museum’s “Sailors in the Sand” exhibit

Third Annual "Navy Day in D.C." Celebration, October 2009:


Rear Admiral Julius S. Caesar, Reserve Deputy Commander and
Commander, Navy Installations Command, officiated the wreathlaying ceremony. 


The U.S. Navy Band entertains the crowd with one of several songs.


The Lone Sailor stands next to the wreath places to celebrate the Navy's 234th birthday.

Navy Day 2008

The 2008 "Navy Day in D.C." celebration brought generations of Sailors together to celebrate the Navy's 233rd birthday.

Navy Day 2008: Kids on ship

The miniature tall ship was one of several Navy craft on display for visitors to explore.

Kid's activities included boat building crafts (pictured above), as well as face painting, Lego building, Battleship games, and balloon artists.

U.S. Navy Memorial President Rear Adm. Rick Buchanan, USN (Ret.)(pictured left) cuts the Navy's birthday cake with assistance from fellow Sailors, as participants and performers look on.

Third Annual "Navy Day in D.C." Celebration, October 2009:


RADM Julius S. Caesar salutes the wreath laid in honor of the Navy and the servicemen and women who have been lost.


The U.S. Navy Cerimonial Guard provided the cordon for the wreathlaying.


The U.S. Navy Color Guard stands on either side of the Lone Sailor.

The U.S. Navy Band jazz ensemble, the "Commodores" played for audiences on the Memorial Plaza.
