In this new and careful analysis, Historian Anthony P. Tully examines the outcome of the epic battleship duel between the American and Japanese forces in Suriago Strait during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Much of what was previously known about this engagement has been significantly distorted; few Japanese survived the battle, which was fought late at night, leaving historians a fragmented idea of what actually happened on October 25, 1944. Tully artfully compiled all existing documentary material, including recently discovered accounts, as well as creating his own thorough analysis of U.S. Navy action reports, and presents this new and updated look at the history of this momentous battle. His expertly detailed work helps to unravel the mystery of what happened in the darkness of the Philippine coast, and is sure to enthrall even the most casual historian.
Anthony P. Tully, a resident of Dallas, Texas, adds Battle of Suriago Strait to his repertoire which includes a study of the Battle of Midway, Shattered Sword, which he co-authored with Jon Parshall. Mr. Tully is an independent scholar and historian of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
